C grille is condemned to be a
shleppy housewife who
cooks a killer pot roast but
never rides in limousines.
Phyllis, rich and famous,
swings from discotheques to din-
ner parties, gulps Valium, dines
with presidents, but could never,
ever — not to save her life —
whip up a pot roast.
The two women, friends since
childhood, turn dark shades of
green when they think about
each other. In a frustrated re-
frain, they sing ...
Everyone's a victim
Of this ducky little dictum:
The grass is always greener
In someone else's yard.
Real life finds Cyrille and
Phyllis (last names Goode and
Meyers) rehearsing this "ducky"
musical number for Knollwood
Country Club's upcoming the-
atrical Re-View on Sep-
tember 8, 9 and 10 at
West Bloomfield High
School.
The show — open to
the general public —
features songs and
dances from seven
decades. It celebrates
the 70th anniversary of
Knollwood, which was
founded in 1925, main-
ly by Congregation
Shaarey Zedek mem-
bers who wanted to golf,
play tennis and just re-
lax in Jewish environs.
Besides Franklin Hills,
most other clubs didn't
welcome their type.
"Knollwood people
couldn't get into non-

Jewish clubs because that's the
way life was in those days," says
Dr. Jason Goode, husband of
Cyrille and producer of the up-
coming Re-View.
Seven decades ago, Knollwood
sprouted in its current location
on Maple Road between Middle-
belt and Inkster. Back then, most
Jews lived in Detroit and would
travel hours along unpaved roads
to get there. Overnight rooms —
now serving as office space —
accommodated the weary
travelers.
Some of Knollwood's early
members are still alive. The old-
est, Sadie Cohn, 98 (wife of the
late Irwin Cohn of the law office
Honigman Miller Schwartz and
Cohn), has belonged to the club
for 67 years. Several other club
members of 50 years or more will
be honored at the Re-View.

What a kick! Nancy Mahlin
heads the chorus line.
