After Saved By The Bell be-
came popular, she was mobbed
in malls and restaurants. Despite
the attention, she continues to
venture out without a hat or a
disguise in public.
"I really think (fame) is more
of what is in your head, what you
make of it," she said. "It is weird,
but I felt very at ease with it. It
was actually sweet because the
kids would be brutally honest. I
just loved that."
Ms. Berkley, whose Showgirls
will debut Sept. 22 in Los Ange-
les, said she hopes some day to
work with the likes of Daniel
Day-Lewis, Leonardo DiCaprio,
Jessica Lange and Jodie Foster.
She also plans to continue her
quest to earn an English litera-
ture degree.
"I have this saying, 'Success is
not a destination; it is a journey,"'
she said. "If I was satisfied at this
point, what would be the point of
going forward? I am never satis-
fied. There is always room to
grow. You can always move your-
self forward." ❑

and watched the replay on a
monitor.
"People always pick them-
selves apart," she said. "Even
when you hear yourself on some-
one else's answering machine,
you think, 'That is what I sound
like?'
"Well, imagine what it is like
seeing yourself naked on the
screen," she said. "Then while I
am watching it on this little mon-
itor I magnified it in my mind to
the biggest screen you could see
and I thought, 'Oh, my.'
"But then it became more com-
fortable at a certain point," she
said. "Between takes, I stopped
throwing a robe over me. That
had actually made it harder to be
naked because I had to take the
robe off each time."
While Ms. Berkley is comfort-
able about the nudity, her broth-
er, Jason, is not. A medical
student in his last year of study
at the University of Health Sci-
ences-College of Osteopathic
Medicine, Mr. Berkley plans to
take time out from rotations to
see his sister's film.
"How many people are cool
seeing their sister naked?" he
said. "I have to comfort myself
and say, It is not her up there. It
is her character."
Ms. Berkley realizes it may be
difficult for her family to see her
without clothes or in an intimate
love scene. "We are a very open
family, but it is not like I walk
around nude in the house.
"I hope they have the same ex-
perience that I had seeing it. I
was in a room alone. The lights
went down," she said. "As I was
watching it, I stopped criticizing
and really got into the character.
Then at the end, it hit me that I
did this." L
