She was the administrator of the Sociology and Anthropology De- partment of Swarthmore Col- lege for 21 years, until her re- tirement in 1988. Prior to her work at Swarthmore, she was personal assistant for five year to the late Arthur Middleton Young, inventor and philan- thropist. She was a lifelong res- ident of the Philadelphia area and a member of Congregation Ner Tamid, where she was ac- tive in the adult education pro- gram. She was a civil rights ac- tivist, a supporter of Israel, and a member of the Women's In- ternational League for Peace and Freedom. Mrs. Federman was the daughter of the late Israel and Gertrude Burstein.
