Sinai Hospital President Phillip
S. Schaengold and the heads of
the hospital's surgery, internal
medicine and obstetrics and gy-
necology departments will visit
the Jewish Federation's Part-
nership 2000 Central Galilee re-
gion.
The people-to-people project
encourages cultural, economic,
and academic exchange between
regions in Israel and corre-
sponding U.S. Jewish communi-
ties. The Jewish Agency, with
support from the Jewish Feder-
ation's Allied Jewish Campaign
sponsors Partnership 2000.
Along with Mr. Schaengold,
Drs. Eduardo Phillips, Steven
Leslie Rabinowe, David B.
Schwartz, chairman, Depart-
ment of Obstetrics and Gynecol-
ogy, will tour the region and
discuss medical and adminis-
trative practices of treatment
centers and labs in the area. The
delegation also will meet with-
Israeli health leaders and physi-
cians, along with mayors,
deputies and other dignitaries
from the region.
The intent of the information-
gathering trip is to develop joint
programs benefiting the region-
al hospital in the Central Galilee
and to promote further coopera-
tion and exchange of medical
knowledge between physicians
in Detroit and the region.
The Jewish Federation of Met-
ropolitan Detroit has received a
S50,000 grant from the W.K. Kel-
logg Foundation of Battle Creek
to develop a seminar for region-
al planners to study at Michigan
State University (MSU) about
social services and other devel-
opment issues in the Central
Galilee region of Israel.
The project will begin in Jan-
uary 1996 with delegates from
MSU visiting Israel and exam-
ine social services for different
populations, including immi-
grants, and health issues. Dele-
gates also will examine volunteer
and economic development in the
region as they prepare a three-
week curriculum for a seminar
which will take place at MSU in
June 1996.
The grant is the first the Jew-
ish Federation has received from
the W.K. Kellogg Foundation,
which was established in 1930
"to help people help themselves
through practical application of
knowledge and resources to im-
prove their quality of life and
that of future generations."
