tion of the new deluxe Dan Hotel
Eilat. According to the munici-
pality, no further land is being al-
located for hotel construction, so
it seems fitting that the last one
looks like being the grandest of

all.

The DariHotel Eilat

When the Dan Eilat opens its
doors in August, it will be the
ninth hotel in Israel's largest lux-
ury hotel chain. However, noth-
ing could be remoter in concept
from the group's very first hotel
— the stately King David in
Jerusalem — than its latest off-
shoot in Eilat. The Dan Eilat is
planned as a total resort hotel,
with an informal environment to
welcome families and children.
That feeling is emphasized im-
mediately one steps into the lob-
by with its splash of color, its
direct view of the Red Sea
through six-story high windows,
and other surprises which it
would be unfair to spoil now.
In deference to the waning
vogue for full-time sun-bathing
due to health reasons, the hotel's
architects have designed larger
than average guest rooms, which
will appeal to those who wish to
spend more time relaxing in-
doors. Every room has remote-
control lighting and air-
conditioning as standard, inter-

laps. There is direct access from
the pool area down to the beach,
and another first that most
tourists have been waiting for in
Eilat — a professionally managed
beach area.
The plan is that guests never
need leave the hotel, and let's face
it, downtown Eilat has never
been a major attraction. There
are seven different places to dine
in the hotel itself and two more
on its promenade. The choice
ranges from Oriental to rotisserie,
and from Middle-Eastern to Mex-
ican. After dinner, guests can
unwind in the lobby, work up a
sweat in the night-club or hang
out in the jazz cellar. New-age
adults have an assortment of vir-
tual-reality games on hand.
For kids there is entertain-
ment in All Baba's Cave, with su-
pervised activities for the younger
ones. They have their own swim-
ming pool and water slide, and
the latest in hi-tech computer
games in the children's video ar-
cade .
