Ilflowe Home for Aged residents sway to the music at Prentis Manor. ALAN HITSKY ASSOCIATE EDITOR PHOTOS BY GLENN TRIEST t wasn't your standard sock hop. But residents of Prentis Manor in Southfield and Fleischman Resi- dence in West Bloomfield enjoyed a dance last week sponsored by the Jewish Home for Aged and its Auxiliary. About 50 residents of the two fa- cilities danced — or just swayed — to waltzes, cha-cha and swing music provided by Joe Cornell Dance Studio. Staff from Prentis Manor turned the home's dining room into "Prentis Ballroom" with balloons, streamers and a sweet table. Half of Prentis' frail elderly partici- pated in the event. Prentis has a special activity month- ly or bi-monthly, in addition to 6-7 dai- ly programs. Said one elderly resident about the dance, "Some of these people haven't smiled like that in years." Fleis- chman resident Ruth Feig, who had lit- tle trouble finding dance partners, said, "This is wonderful." Prentis staff, the Home for Aged Aux- iliary, and family members helped out at the event, which was coordinated by Project JOIN intern Caryn Lubetsky. El Above: Gertrude Eastman and Ira Boykansky.
