made by the chef and her hus-
band ... Patrons are wise to go
easy on side offerings to hold
room for a selection of desserts
that throw calorie caution to the
winds.
The Money Tree is not a big
place ... seating 60 inside plus 10
seats at the bar, along with about
eight 2-top tables and another 35
outside.
It is always so very nice to see
the return of a dining favorite ...
Especially when the restoration
is as it was, with slight variations
so much for the better.
Jackie Grant, a hard-working
owner who is also a lunchtime
hostess seating guests with a
smile, has retained a certain
niche that local folks remember
with much appreciation ... and
thanks.
ONE OF THE the leading
young groups in fund raising is
out to prove that the $270,000
stemming from last year's inau-
gural golf outing and black-tie
dinner was no fluke.
This year, the goal is even
higher ... $300,000 by Michigan
Cancer Foundation Partners, a
group of youthful professionals
who are being looked upon as
MCF's next generation of lead-
ers.
The golf classic, Sept. 5, will be
at Indianwood Golf and Country
Club in Lake Orion ... and the
.
Their menus are
on the money.
MCF Partners' black-tie ball is
Sept. 8, at the International Cen-
ter of Atheneum Hotel on Mon-
roe.
Golfing is $275 per person, in-
cluding 18 holes with a cart, golf
gifts, all-day refreshments, open
bar, hole-in-one prizes, dinner
and golf tips by noted pro Bob
Toski.
The black-tie dinner-dance —
friend $100 per person and bene-
factor $200 — will also include a
silent auction.
The affairs will be in memory
of Geraldine Rissman, one of last
year's staunch hard workers ...
and in honor of localites Sam and
Jean Frankel, Dr. Jeffrey and
Miriam Forman and Jan and Pat
Hartmann ...Proceeds go toward
research in causes and treat-
ments of cancer, plus patient care
with advanced diagnostic and
therapy ni:chods.
Wisl. every member's name
could be mentioned ... they are
so dedicated and aggressive
...General chairpersons who will
also split up to work as co-chair-
folks of the two events are ...Tony
Amine, Linda Deutsch, Carrie
Lachman Lenchner, Andrea
Paris, Scott Pearce, Eunice Ring,
Linda Schafer and Tom Spillane.
One of the main purposes of
the Susanne Korman Morton
Cancer Research Fund, a major
MCF initiative, is learning how
specialized cells can be developed
to kill cancer ... and is on to big
news ... As of this date, re-
searchers have identified a par-
ticular class of lymphocytes
capable of infiltrating and ulti-
mately killing cancer cells ...
Methods to isolate these lym-
phocytes and grow them to larg-
er numbers are being matured.
There are no words to describe
Michigan Cancer Foundation
Partners ... It is undoubtedly one
of the nation's finest young
groups.

more information, call staff liai-
son Amy Cannon, (313) 833-

CONGRATS ... to Betty
Starr ... on her birthday ... cel-
ebrated with a luncheon by her
children at Hyatt Regency.
DISA N' DATA ... About 400
pounds of whitefish weekly is the
amazing stat at little Giorgio's,
Greenfield and 10 Mile, the fa-
vorite diner of so many folks ...
It's the number one seller ...
Might be the right ticket for hav-
ing a kosher Coney Island set-
up where Sara's Deli used to be
on Greenfield and 10 Mile ... A
lot of concentration will be on
cleanliness and low prices.
David Syme dinner-show re-
turns to Arriva Italia on E. 12
Mile, between Mound and Van
Dyke, Aug. 20 and Sept. 17 ...
$34.95 for dinner at 6 and show
at 8 ... Anniversary parties by
Excalibur, Franklin at North-
western and 12 Mile, are always
gala shindigs ... Number 17 is set
for Aug. 21, with food galore, lots
of music and dancing ... no
charge.
Tom's Oyster Bar at the for-
mer Norm's on Franklin Road in
Southfield is still "any day" ...
Three reasons why Cicero's on
Novi Road in Pine Ridge Shop-
ping Center is getting come-back
biz is because of the whitefish,
salmon and chicken Parmesan
... Still a mighty good "sleeper"
is Sweetwater's Bistro on Cass
Lake Road, owned by Cheryl and
Dr. Joel Kimelman ... The rack
of lamb and fresh fish are wise
choices on a menu filled with
good items.
Burgers at O'Shucks in Muir-
wood Square on Drake and
Grand River are getting number
one ratings ... -Owner Larry
Sheehan is an old hat at garner-
ing awards for his burgers ...
Michael Krieger does pop songs,
ballads, jazz standards and
Broadway tunes at the piano of
Clarkston Cafe on S. Main Street
in Clarkston ... Lot of good stuff
in the "Riverside Journal" put out
by Norm Prady ... Oldie But
Goodie: The little old lady ran up
to the cop and cried, "I was at-
tacked!" ... "When?" asked the of-
ficer ... "20 years ago." ... "Why
tell me now?" ... "I like to talk
about it once in a while."
