MEET FRAN KL IN'S
RACQUET SQUAD

the recipient of the 1995 Henry
Rossett Award for outstanding
contributions to fetal alcohol re-
search. Dr. Abel in June received
the award from the Fetal Alcohol
Syndrome Study Group of the
Research Society on Alcoholism
at the society's annual meeting
in Colorado. Dr. Abel serves as
director of Wayne State Univer-
sity's C.S. Mott Center for Hu-
man Growth and Development
and as scientific director of the
Fetal Alcohol Research Center.

Dr. Neal Alpiner has joined
Hurley Medical Center as its
medical director of pediatric
physical medicine and rehabili-
tation services. Dr. Alpiner
served as director of the Spina
Bifida Children's Care Center be-
fore starting at Hurley. Dr. Alpin-
er is board certified in pediatrics
and physical medicine and reha-
bilitation with subspecialties in
pediatric rehabilitation, spinal
cord injuries, and juvenile and
adult arthritis.
He earned his medical degree
from Wayne State University's
School of Medicine and complet-
ed his residency training at Chil-
dren's Hospital of Michigan and
the Rehabilitation Institute of
Michigan. In addition to his work
at Hurley, Dr. Alpiner also serves
as a clinical professor at WSU
School of Medicine and as an as-
sociate professor in the school's
department of education.

Dr. Selwyn Kay has joined the
medical staff of Sinai Hospital.
He will join Dr. Eduardo Phillips,
chairman of the department of
surgery, and Dr. William Kesten-
berg in their practice at the
Hechtman Center in Bingham
Farms. Dr. Kay comes to Sinai
from Cape Town, South Africa,
where he was a consultant sur-
geon at Tygerberg Hospital and
a lecturer at the University of
Stellenbosch.
He did his surgical residency
at Sinai Hospital and one in fam-
ily medicine through Wayne
State University School of Med-
icine. His medical affiliations in-
clude the American Medical
Society, the Michigan State Med-
ical Society and the Wayne Coun-
ty Medical Society. El
