host a two day "Journey Thru
Kabbalah" workshop to be con-
ducted by Chazzan Mark
Malachi of Santa Fe, N.M., on
Sunday evening, Aug. 20, and
all day on Monday, Aug. 21. The
workshop, which will be held at
Northminster Church, 3633
West Big Beaver Road, Troy,
will start at 7 p.m. Sunday
evening and at 9 a.m. Monday
morning.
This workshop will offer an op-
portunity to explore the art of

Philip Handleman

Philip Handleman will receive
the Distinguished Humanitari-
an Service Award of the Ameri-
can Red Magen David for Israel
(ARMDI) at the Dr. John J.
Mames Chapter — Michigan Re-
gion annual testimonial dinner,
Sept. 19 at Adat Shalom Syna-
gogue.
`This year's dinner will cele-
brate the 3,000th birthday of
Jerusalem.
Mr. Handleman has long been
an officer and board member of
ARMDI's Michigan Region. In
addition, he has served on the
boards of the Jewish Federation
Apartments and the Jewish Fed-
eration's Young Adult Division,
as well as on the executive com-
mittee of the Jewish Communi-
ty Council. He serves on the
board of the Friends of the Israel
Defense Forces - Michigan Chap-
ter. He has been a lifelong mem-
ber of Temple Beth El.
Other civic affiliations include
memberships on the boards of
the Detroit Historical Society,
the Detroit Symphony Orches-
tra Hall, the Friends of the De-
troit Public Library, and the
American Red Cross - South-
eastern Michigan Chapter.

Workshop Set
On Healing

On Sunday, Aug. 6, Tishah B'Av,
the Holocaust Memorial Center
will stay open until 5 p.m. The
doors will be locked a half hour
before closing.
There will be a public tour at
1 p.m., after which a Holocaust
survivor will speak to the group.
The Holocaust Memorial Cen-
ter is located at 6602 W. Maple
Road in West Bloomfield. For in-

Mark Malachi

years and has lectured and pre-
sented workshops nationally on
the mystical roots of the Hebrew
alphabet, healing with sound
and Jewish spirituality. He has
also produced cassettes of his
original music.
Chazzan Malachi, who holds
a master of arts in clinical psy-
chology from the University of
North Carolina and is ordained
as an New Faith minister, is
serving as the chazzan of Tem-
ple Beth Shalom of Santa Fe.

Men's Forum meets at 10:30 a.m.
at the Jimmy Prentice Morris
Jewish Community Center. Fa- ,/
cilitator, David Weiner, leads
discussions on current events
and politics. Participation is free
of charge.
Evening Drop In Bridge is
held the first, third, and fifth
Thursday of every month at 7
p.m. Individuals at all skill lev-
els are invited to participate.
Supplies are provided and light
