Hard Rock's hamburger meat
is supplied primarily by manu-
facturer Mizra according to spec-
ifications. Potatoes are also
procured locally.
"Until half a year ago we im-
ported most of our prepackaged
restaurant foods — some of
which are made according to se-
cret formulas," explains Mr.
Sa'ad. "Now we work more with
Israeli suppliers."
Hard Rock attracts 20,000-
30,000 visitors per month, de-
pending on the season. "Summer
is the hot season in all senses of
the word," says Mr. Sa'ad. The
restaurant seats 250. There is
also a store which sells fashion
and promotional. items sporting
the Hard Rock logo.
"This is the only place in Israel
where you can get Hard Rock
Cafe Tel Aviv items," says Mr.
Sa'ad. "Anything else you see is
a fake."
T-shirts are now made locally
and meet the international
chain's standards.
One item which Mr. Sa'ad has
not yet managed to get locally is
crockery. Many Israeli suppliers
find themselves unable to beat
the prices offered by foreign man-
ufacturers, despite the breakable
items' high replacement rate. "It
would be much easier if we could
find a crockery supplier in Is-
rael," Mr. Sa'ad sighs.
On the brighter side, as the lo-
cal music scene thrives it creates
more of Hard Rock's other com-
modity — artifacts touched by
the gods. The restaurant has a
respectable collection of memen-
tos, such as half of T-Bone Bur-
nett's Cadillac and outfits worn
by Freddy Mercury, Prince and
Elvis Presley as well as items
culled from visiting music stars
such as Guns & Roses.
Hard Rock Tel Aviv is in the
process of cataloging its collec-
tion (which belongs to the fran-
chisees) and intends to add
Israeli items from stars such as
David Broza and Ahinoam Nini.
Planet Hollywood owns mem-
orabilia such as dresses worn by
Judy Garland in The Wizard of
Oz and by Marilyn Monroe in
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, the
Splash mermaid tail, an egg pod
from Aliens, droids from Star
Wars, and the ice pick from Ba-
sic Instinct.
Tel Aviv's collection will in-
clude famous Jewish theme
memorabilia such as the fiber-
glass tablets from The Ten Com-
mandments and props from Ben
Hur. All Planet Hollywood mu-
seum items the world over be-
long to the parent company.
Aside from the beach bar,
which seats 150, the 20,000-
square foot Planet Hollywood
restaurant will seat 400 people
while its bar will accommodate
another 200. A separate function
room will be available for parties
and events. The restaurant will
employ 300 people. 111
