Sensors Detect
Antibodies
Jerusalem — Savyon Diagnos-
tics has developed a series of am-
perometric sensory tests to help
detect AIDS antibodies.
Healthcare Technologies,
Savyon's parent company, said
the AIDS immunosensors will en-
able medical personnel to conduct
inexpensive tests that produce
rapid results. The new technol-
ogy provides automatic, almost
continuous readings, and enables
large quantities of blood samples
to be analyzed either at a clinic
or at a patient's bedside.
Savyon has funded and co-de-
veloped the project with Hebrew
University's Yissum R&D Co.,
also a subsidiary of Healthcare.
Healthcare President Dr.
Yeshayahu Yakir said the re-
searchers' breakthrough was par-
ticularly important for the early
diagnosis of AIDS.
Savyon has also developed ad-
ditional sensors that provide ac-
curate measurement and
monitoring of the sugar levels in
the bloodstream of diabetes pa-
tients, enabling the detection of
infant jaundice and bilirubin, the
biological cause for jaundice.
Savyon has exclusive patent
rights for the new technology.
