Whether it's a few stitches or a broken bone, you want the assurance that you'll be seen as an individual. Not a number. And when you come through these doors, spice is obtained. In earlier ex- periments, Professor Madar showed that when rats whose blood sugar and cholesterol lev- els had been deliberately raised were fed ground-up fenugreek, their blood sugar/cholesterol lev- els returned to normal. Hebrew University re- searchers discovered a unique method for extracting various chemical components in the fenugreek seeds. These compo- nents were examined for their ef- fectiveness in absorbing sugars, triglycerides (fats) or cholesterol in humans; the work was per- formed in cooperation with the Odyssey firm. Commerce Rd. • Commerce Rd Tests were carried out in two hospitals, one in New York and the other in Boston, on thou- sands of patients who were dia- betic; non-diabetics who had a propensity for excessive intake of sugar and those who were just overweight. The experiments re- vealed a polysaccharide-complex in fenugreek that absorbs sug- ars and fatty lipopolids in the blood. This substance, given the name of fenugreek derivative gum (FDG), was isolated and giv- en in pure form to those with high blood sugar and cholesterol levels and those with normal lev- els. In both instances, blood sug- ar and cholesterol levels were recognizably lowered. The Odyssey firm plans to begin mar- keting FDG within various food products and as a prescription medicine in the United States on Sept. 1. An additional positive element found in fenugreek seeds is a molecule that can function as an emulsifier in producing a lotion for sensitive skin. Another ap- plication is as a surface-active protein complex that can be use- ful in food production. Other on- going investigations involve possible oil and protein sub- stances which can be produced from fenugreek. 0 Sleeth Rd. w To To Maple Rd. {2 mks} U) Wayne State University LLI DMC LLJ CI LU uron Valley spital HOT SHOTS Do you have an item for "Hot Shots"?
