Federationposts its yearly
allocations to agencies.

T

he Jewish Federation of Metropolitan De-
troit announced Tuesday that most of its lo-
cal agencies will receive increases from the
1995 Allied Jewish Campaign.
Jewish schools and educational programs got
the largest boost. They were allocated $2,127,409
— about $215,000 more than last year.
Culture and group services (including univer-
sity Hillels, the Jewish Community Center, the
B'nai B'rith Youth Organization, etc.) also will re-
ceive an aggregate increase over last year's allo-
cations (about $205,600 more than in 1994).
The JCC was also given a special one-time fimd-
ing hike of $162,000 to help it redesign program-
ming, boost membership and overcome financial
troubles.
Federation leaders predict the 1995 Allied Jew-
ish Campaign will bring in $26.8 million by the
end of December. This second-largest-ever Cam-
paign has enabled budgeting officials to split a
larger pie between Israel, national causes and lo-
cal agencies.

"The increased Campaign has allowed us to at
least contemplate some small increases for agen-
cies, to recognize inflation and, in some cases, to
allocate some funding for additional program-
ming," says Allan Nachman, chairman of Feder-
ation's planning and allocations steering
committee.
The Federation will send $13.5 million over-
seas this year, somewhat more than last year, but
less than in 1993, when Israel received $14 mil-
lion from metro Detroit Jews.
In accordance with a plan to keep more money
at home, the percentage of total Campaign monies
earmarked for national agencies and Israel has
declined for two years.
In February 1994, Federation officials decided
to modify the traditional "60-40 split." In the past,
60 percent of Campaign revenue went overseas,
mostly to Israel. Forty percent was spent on na-
tional and local agencies.
Last year, the ratio changed to 59-41. This year,
