sion to make in order to achieve
moral growth.
This theme is so crucial be-
cause we sometimes mistakenly
believe, to love one another, to re-
spect one's country, to support Is-
rael, means that there should
never be words of criticism or dis-
sent or rebuke. but this is not in
our tradition. The prophets
emerged as powerful moral lead-
ers because they did not hesitate
to expose the weaknesses of their
people, and sometimes those very
prophets themselves, were chal-
lenged.
A criticism of love and concern
brings blessing. We need to learn
how to offer criticism in the spir-
it of friendship, understanding
and commitment.
