The Maple-Drake Jewish Com-
munity center will present Ros-
alynn Carter as the speaker at
the 1995 Critical Issues in Amer-
ica Forum, on Tuesday, Sept. 12,
7:30 p.m., at the Plaza Hotel,
16400 J. L. Hudson Drive, South-
field. Her topic will be "Caregiv-
ing: Helping Yourself Help
Others."
Mrs. Carter has been an advo-
cate for mental health for the last
20 years and during the Carter
administration was made the ac-
tive honorary chairman of the
President's Commission on Men-
tal Health, from which position
she pushed the Mental Health
Systems Act of 1980. In 1991, she
co-launched "Every Child by
Two," the nationwide campaign
to advocate early immunization.
Mrs. Carter has been a long-
time supporter and volunteer
worker for Habitat for Humani-
ty, under whose auspices she has
helped to build homes for the
needy. Mrs. Carter also is the
author of three books.
The talk is free of charge. The
sponsors are Henry Ford Med-
ical Systems, the Shirley Harris
Fund, the LeVine Institute on
Aging, the Detroit Free Press,
WDIV Channel 4, the United
Way, and the Jewish Communi-
ty Center of Metropolitan De-
troit.

JARC Holds
A Workshop

JARC will sponsor "Developing
Strong Leaders in Today's Res-
idential and Health Care Un-
certainties" on Wednesday, July
12, at the Doubletree Guest-
suites Hotel in Southfield. The
one-day workshop will be led by
Charles S. Jacobs, former De-
troiter and founder of Amherst
Consulting Group in Boston. De-
signed for long-term residential
care providers, the workshop has
been approved for Nursing Home
and Group Home Administra-
tors continuing education cred-
its.
During Mr. Jacobs' 20 years of
corporate and consulting expe-
rience specializing in innovative
strategies for improving the per-
formance of organizations, he has
worked with more the 50 of the
Fortune 100 service and indus-
trial companies.
JARC (Jewish Association for
Residential Care) is a local, non-
profit organization which oper-
ates 18 group homes and four
independent living programs for
adults with developmental dis-
abilities in southern Oakland
County.
