Jerusalem Teledata Communi-
cation has received a $4 million
order for its DCS-20 family of
concentrating multiplexers from
a European telephone company.
The order is to be supplied over
the next nine months.
The DCS-20 was the first
telecommunications system that
Teledata introduced to the mar-
ket several years ago. The sys-
tem, which has been developed
to be used by a wide variety of ac-
cess network applications, is now
in service in more than 40 na-
tional telephone networks.
Joseph Atsmon, Teledata's chief
executive officer, said that Europe
continues to be a major market.
Bezek Probes
Stock Purchase
Jerusalem — Bezek's board of di-
rectors recently set up a com-
mittee to look into "all the
implications" of the purchase of
its stock by British company Ca-
ble & Wireless.
Bezek said the body will also
approve the content of a "suitable
agreement" between the two
telecommunications companies.
Bezek chairman Gurion
Meltzer and director-general
Yitzhak Kaul will continue their
negotiations with Cable & Wire-
less, which recently bought 10
percent of Bezek's shares on the
stock market. After the pur-
chase, the government issued a
statement that the acquisition
was too quick and could interfere
with Bezek's privatization plans.
The board, which included its
legal and financial experts in the
discussion, said that ensuring
policy independence — including
the choice of strategic partners
— was vital.
Tadiran Joins
Barco Venture
Jerusalem — Tadiran Communi-
cations Systems has signed a joint
venture agreement with Barco, one
of the leading manufacturers of
professional equipment in the tele-
vision communications field.
According to the deal, the corn-
panies will cooperate in marketing
of compressed video transmission
products.
The equipment was developed
by Scopus Imaging Program, a
Tadiran subsidiary recently estab-
lished to develop compressed video
transmission equipment comply-
ing with MPEG 2 standards.
Barco, which has its headquar-
ters in Belgium, is active in Europe,
the Far East and North America.
The company has an annual
sales turnover of about $390 mil-
lion.
