n the next seven days, Bruce
Landgarten will finish tying
up loose ends at the Jewish
Community Center of Metro-
politan Detroit.
He will clean out his office, say
goodbye to co-workers and launch
a new career.
Next Friday will be the last
time the assistant executive di-
rector walks down the health club
steps and past the windows that
overlook the gym. As he contin-
ues through the Center lobby and
out the front doors on June 30,
Mr. Landgarten will end his 12
years of service at the JCC.
Leah Ann Kleinfeldt, the as-
sociate executive director, said
the Center is exploring staffing
and restructuring options to fill
the void.
During his time at the JCC,
Mr. Landgarten has overseen
child development, building ser-
vices, the health club, physical
education, singles, teens, sum-
mer camp membership and mar-
keting.
"Professionally, I've done
everything I could to make a pos-
itive impact on the Jewish Cen-
ter," Mr. Landgarten said. "I did
what I could with what we had.
It's time to bring in fresh blood."
Mr. Landgarten stressed that
the Center's recent financial trou-
bles have not prompted him to
leave. And, he said, he is not leav-
ing "with sour grapes." Instead,
he is ready to make a significant
career change.
"I'd like to get into the business
world and see where it takes me,"
he said.
Mr. Landgarten already has a
business venture he is anxious to
get off the ground. He may take
a few days off, but then it's right
back to work in a different
capacity — running Events Man-
agement Group Inc., a special-
events marketing company he
created.
"It's something I've been think-
ing about for a while," he said.
The Center executive already
is building a client list and said
he may plan future JCC special
events. El
