JENNIFER FINER STAFF WRITER

Jennifer Levin spent her first
election night — cellular phone
in hand — with family and
friends at a Farmington Hills
restaurant.
Nervous, and tired from a 13-
hour day of campaigning for a
seat on the Farmington school
board, the 25-year-old attorney
made her splash in the world of
politics because she thought she
could make a difference in edu-
cation.
Later, Ms. Levin would learn
she lost to Linda Enberg by al-
most 1,400 votes.
"I know I gave it my best try,"
Ms. Levin said. "I learned a lot
from my experiences and I will
probably run again."

Oak Park's newest school-board
members Robert Stern (top) and
Chaim Garfinkel.

Candidates in Monday's
school-board elections saw some
close races, ousted a few incum-
bents and in some areas saw
higher-than-expected voter
turnout. Oakland County voters
also approved Oakland Commu-
nity College's millage increase of
.8 mills for seven years.
In West Bloomfield, Kathryn
Winterhalter ousted incumbent
Bruce Tobin for a four-year term
on the board. Jeffrey Stewart, a
board member since 1983, was
re-elected.
Candidates Daniel Frohardt-
Lane and Richard Granke se-
cured the most votes in Royal
Oak.
