The festival will line West Grand Blvd. between Woodward Ave. and the Lodge Freeway, ad- jacent to the General Motors, New Center One and Fisher buildings. Festival hours are 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. June 30- July 3, and 11:30 a.m.-8 p.m. July 4. The Michigan TasteFest will feature more than 35 local and regional restaurants selling their specialties. Tickets for "samples" and "tastes" will be available at $5 for nine tickets. Things will be cooking on "restaurant row" as eateries compete in the first Best of the Fest—recognizing out- standing booth design, restau- rant style, and themes. Beautiful noise will rise from the SelectCare Cool BlueStage and the Wellness Plan Jazz Showcase Tent. The area's top performers will jam non-stop throughout the five-day fast. The Detroit Blues Society will offer acoustic guitar and blues har- monica workshops at the Select- Care Cool Blue Stage for beginning, intermediate and ad- vanced students. Children can test their skill in the newest craze sweeping the nation at the Crowley's World POG FederationTm Tournament, July 1-4 from noon-6 p.m. in New Center One. The KidZone—spon- sored by Henry Ford Health Sys- tem on the New Center One Plaza—will also feature fun for the young set including The Detroit News paper toss, face painting, crafts, a chance to get close to ex- otic live animals from Science Alive, and the chance to meet Aahsie the Cat and an Air Force kid for Radio AAHS. AT & T Laser Spectacular, a brilliant fusion of light and sound bringing the nighttime skies to life, will be projected onto a five- story giant inflatable outdoor screen, and synchronized with an original high-energy rock sound- track. Proceeds from Michigan Taste- Fest support the charitable ac- tivities of the New Center Foundation. Premiere At Fisher The Fisher Theatre will host the world premiere of BIG, at the Fisher in February 1996, prior to its Broadway engagement. New subscriber tickets for the 1995-96 Fisher Playgoer Series are on sale now. Call the Fisher Theatre, (313) 872-1000. L DINE IN OR CARRY-OUT DELICIOUS FAT FREE TUNA! STAR NOW ALSO HAS HAND CUT LOX!
