Groundbreaking
The 34th annual Brandeis used
book sale will be held Aug. 9
through 16 at Tel-12 Mall. Book
sale chairmen are Gladys bern-
stein and Joan Braun.
Volunteers are needed to work
at the Mall during book sale
week. Workers need not be mem-
bers. To work call Joan Braun,
626-8985; or Dee Fishman, 626-
7570.
Boys are needed to help set up
the sale, move and unpack heavy
boxes of books. Dee Fishman,
626-7570, is looking for boys to
hire for this job.
All proceeds from the book
sale benefit the Brandeis Uni-
versity libraries.
The Lubavitch Foundation of
Michigan will hold ground-
breaking ceremonies for the Syn-
agogue Campus of Living
Judaism on their 40-acre site on
West Maple Road, between
Drake and Halsted Roads in
West Bloomfield, just west of the
Jewish Community Center hon-
oring the first yahrtzeit of the
Lubavicher Rebbe.
The groundbreaking, which
will take place at 10:30 a.m., on
July 2, will honor campus gov-
ernors Martin and Phyllis Abel,
Norman Allan, Dr. George A.
and Vivian Dean, Emma
Lazaroff-Schaver, and Jack and
Miriam Shenkman. Also recog-
nized will be campus patrons
Sidney and Jewel Fields, Dr.
Jerome and Sherri Kasle, Sam
and Carole Sobel and Philip
Stollman.
Gust of honor at the ground-
breaking will be Ray Yisroel
Meir Lau, Chief Rabbi of Israel,
who will be joined by national
and local politicians, officials of
state and municipal government,
representatives of the Jewish
Federation and other Jewish or-
ganizations.
The groundbreaking will be
followed at noon by a lunch re-
ception at the Plaza Hotel in
Southfield, at which the keynote
address will be delivered by Chief
Rabbi Lau.
The public is invited to attend
the groundbreaking and lunch
reception;. There is no charge for
the groundbreaking. There is a
$15 charge for the lunch recep-

The Department of Michigan,
Jewish War Veterans and Ladies
Auxiliary will kick off the 100th
Anniversary year with a three-
day convention that will feature
the presentation of over 20 col-
lege scholarships and a veteran
seminar.
The scholarship awards will
be made at the JWV Memorial
Home on June 23, at 7:30 p.m.
following Sabbath services by
Chaplains Tom Tannis and
Shirley Schlussel and will mark
the 36th year of the scholarship
program.
The convention will continue
on Saturday, June 25, at 9 a.m.
with services at Congregation
Beth Abraham Hillel Moses.
A free Veteran Benefit Semi-
nar will be offered by JWV Na-
tional Service Officer Irving
Keller at the Memorial Home
from 2-4 p.m.
The Saturday events will con-
clude with a dinner-dance at
Vladimer's Inc., 28125 Grand
River, Farmington Hills, honor-
ing State Commander Milton
Klein and Ladies Auxiliary Pres-
ident Faye Glosser. The evenings
entertainment will include mu-
sic by Johnny Cash with Bernie
Hoffman acting as MC for the oc-
casion.
The Sunday, June 25, con-
vention business will begin with
a registration at 9 a.m. and
memorial services for departed
comrades at 9:30 a.m. The ma-
jor convention business and elec-
tions will convene at noon.
The overall activities for this
54th Annual Convention will be
chaired by Jack Schwartz, chief
of staff, and Rosalyn Liner,
Ladies Auxiliary Adviser, as-
sisted by Ely Katz and Corinne
Cohn. Both the Friday evening
scholarship program and the
Saturday Veteran Seminar are
open to the public without
charge.
Conferences
From Machon
Machon L'Torah will hold an ed-
ucational lunchtime conference
at the offices of Honigman,
Miller, Schwartz and Cohn of
Tuesday, June 20, at 12:15 p.m.
Rabbi Avraham Jacobivitz will
lead the discussion. The program
will be hosted by Kenneth Gold
and will include a deli lunch be-
fore the lecture. There is no

lunchtime conference at Henry
Ford Hospital on Wednesday,
June 21, at 11:45 a.m. Rabbi Ja-
cobovitz will lead a discussion ti-
tled 'What Rabbi Akiva Would

program will be hosted by Dr.
Barry Levine and Dr. Steve
Levine. There will be a deli lunch
before the lecture. There is a
