velopmentally disabled clients.
At Mall Optical, Dr. Feinberg
has state-of-the-art automatic re-
fraction equipment. On a yearly
basis, he examines all JARC res-
idents and employees. And Mall
Optical, located in the Summit
Mall, donates eyeglasses to
JARC's clients.
Like most Business Buddies,
Dr. Feinberg would rather not
discuss his reasons for his gen-
erous contribution. Instead, he
considers his donation more of an
obligation. "It wasn't a hard de-
cision to make," he said.
Indeed, most participating
businesses don't distinguish be-
tween their personal and busi-
ness responsibilities to the
community. "They realize that
out of their good fortune they
have an opportunity to donate,"
said Ms. Friedberg.
Jay Korelitz of Harry's Garden
Centers Inc. in Warren started a
fund at JARC in honor of his
mother's 75th birthday. His
mother, Esther, is a JARC vol-
unteer and still works at the gar-
den center. Shortly after opening
the fund, Mr. Korelitz realized
JARC was in need of garden sup-
plies. So he not only began to do-
nate landscape items and tools,
but encouraged his suppliers to
do the same.
Mr. Korelitz's view for donat-
ing seems to be typical among
JARC's Business Buddies. "If it
doesn't start with me, then with
who?" he said. "What does your
business mean if you can't give
something back to the commu-
nity that supports you?" ❑

Heads of Israel's business asso-
ciations strongly criticized the
Bank of Israel's and the govern-
ment's economic policy, saying
the economic situation is ex-
pected to deteriorate in the near
future.
The business sector represen-
tatives held a joint press confer-
ence at which they warned of
upcoming trouble with unem-
ployment, high interest rates and
foreign currency policy.
The country's six business as-
sociations represent 1.3 million
workers, responsible for produc-
ing 70 percent of the nation's
Gross Domestic Product.
Fears were expressed that the
economy is entering a period of
high unemployment, resulting
from high interest rates and a
slowdown in exports. The effec-
tive inflation rate is going up, de-
spite the recent publication of
indexes indicating that prices are
declining.
