School ada.d. School Candidates On Education Issues JENNIFER FINER STAFF WRITER Jennifer Levin: running in Farmington. I) y June 12, many public-school students will be out for the summer or nearing their vacation. However, education will be on the minds of Oakland County voters, who are being asked to vote for school-board members as well as de- cide on a millage renewal for Oakland Community Col- lege. The Jewish News asked candidates in Berkley, Bloom- field Hills, Farmington, Oak Park, Royal Oak, West Bloom- field and Walled Lake Consolidated districts to answer questions about their backgrounds and reasons for run- ning. They were asked to discuss some of the issues in their district and how they would ad- dress those issues. Candidates were also asked to discuss the hot-button issue of school prayer. No candidates filed in the Southfield district. Almost three months ago, county vot- ers rejected OCC's first millage request in the college's 31-year history. The failed proposal asked for one mill in addition to the mill OCC was authorized to collect. This time, OCC is hoping voters will authorize eight-tenths of a mill for seven years. The college plans to use the additional .8 mill to build and repair OCC buildings, add new programs and equip- ment. ❑ Randolph Ston: Walled Lake Consolidated Schools.
