sees and reveres. The

As a child offive, Rosenthal began to draw on the
sidewalks in the Bronx. Soon, he was making special
drawings for his classmates and at eight years of age,
during the Depression years, he made drawings and
signs for peddlers, which they displayed on their pushcarts.

It is impossible to separate Rosenthal's works from these
formative influences of his childhood and his frequent
visits to his grandparents, who lived in Manhattan's
lower east side. There was great warmth in his family
at home and in the synagogue with his Rabbi. His
great love and concern for people, and particularly, for
the customs of the Jewish people, poured out of him in
sketches. Today, these sketches have turned into sensitive
and powerful oil paintings, detailed watercolors and
expressive lithographs.

Rosenthal is listed in Who's Who In American Art.
Thirty-nine of his lithographs are in the permanent
collection of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art.
His works are also in the permanent collection of the
Print and Drawing Department of the New York Public
Library, 5th Ave. and 42nd Street. He was one of the few
living artists represented in "The Major Drawings of the
Nineteenth and Twentieth Century Master Drawings
Exhibition' at the Gallery of Modern Art (Huntington
Hartford Museum) in New York City. His art is
displayed in the Indianapolis Museum of Art, The Suffolk
Museum at Stony Brook, Long Island, the Harry S.
Truman Library in Independence, Missouri and the
Technicon Building in Hafia, Israel. Rosenthal's art is
an important part of many prominent private collections.

The Seymour Rosenthal Collection is a glimpse of the
beauty and richness of life in another time that has
nourished the ongoing Jewish traditions in today's world.
These lithographs are symbols of a strong heritage that we
pass on to future generations.
