less concerned with the Arab
vote. It's" also clear American
Jews are better organized polit-
ically and he is not getting as
much organized pressure from
the Arab side."
The proposed legislation
marks the first time in over a
decade that lawmakers intro-
duced a bill mandating a U.S. em-
bassy in Jerusalem. "It's a good
time for us to act despite the
threats," said Mr. Dallen ofAmer-
icans for a Safe Israel. "For the
United States to insist in dealing
with Israel only through Tel Aviv
is like Israel claiming New York
as the capital of the United
States."
Ms. Greenberg disagrees. "I
want the embassy in Jerusalem
as much as anyone," she said. "I
just don't want it done today. The
timing is wrong. I don't want to

see it interfere with the peace
process."
Professor Rubner agrees a
move to relocate the embassy
could wreck the process.
"There was an expectation on
the part of the Palestinians that
nothing substantial would
change in regard to Jerusalem,"
he said. "It takes the United
States out of any possibility of be-
ing a neutral facilitator of peace."
Jewish organizations also find
themselves on opposite sides of
the fence.
The Washington-based Na-
tional Jewish Coalition, a Re-
publican think tank, is one of
several Jewish organizations in
favor of relocating the embassy.
Others, including B'nai B'rith In-
ternational and the National
Jewish Democratic Council, fear
it could dampen the prospects for
peace. 0

Mezzuzot
For JHA

The Auxiliary of Jewish Home
for Aged recently launched its
Mezuzzah Project. This effort is
designed to raise funds to refur-
bish all the doorposts at Fleis-
chman Residence/Blumberg
Plaza with mezuzzot. The new
mezuzzot will fulfill all religious
requirements and will also en-
hance the beauty of the facility.
A contribution of $100 will cov-
er the cost of one mezuzzah; and
the name of the donor will be dis-
played, along with other con-
tributors, at Fleischman
Residence. A mezuzzah can be
purchased to memorialize or
honor dear ones.
Pearlina Bodzin, Sharon Fleis-
chman and Joanne Zuroff are co-
chairpersons of the Mezuzzah
Project. For information, call
Joanne Zuroff 626-8957.
