Located in a restored church, this
gallery specializes in Japanese
woodblock prints of the 18th-20th
century. Paintings and original
graphics by Michigan, national and
international artists as well as ce-
ramics by area potters are includ-
ing a Holiday Show featuring fiber,
jewelry and glass.
Stars Shine
At Festival
This year's Israel Festival, which
will run through June 10, is set to
offer visitors an extravaganza of
opera, theater, music, dance and
entertainment from around the
world with the participation of
more than 1,000 artists from 25
countries.
Ninety performances are sched-
uled and 150,000 visitors are ex-
pected at locations ranging from
the Sultan's Pool Amphitheater to
the Tower of David and the Dor-
mition Abbey in Jerusalem.
Israel's Batsheva Dance Com-
pany will open the Festival at the
Jerusalem Theater. Performances
include Peter Brook's The Man
Who, performed by four actors
from his Paris International The-
ater Center; Handel's Saul, sung
in English by the National Es-
tonian Choir; the fully staged
Covent Garden production of
Bizet's Carm'en; a single
Beethoven and Schumann recital
by Russian pianist No Pogorelich;
Gaudeamus, by St. Petersburg's
famed Maly Theater; Pilgrims
and Exiles, by the Warsaw Studio
Theater, and from America, works
by the Guarneri Quartet, the
famed choreographer Trisha
Brown, jazz bassist Charlie Haden
and singer Joe Cocker.
