Sheldon Miller

John Shepherd

Judge John H. Shepherd and De-
troit attorney Sheldon L. Miller
will be honored by the Metropol-
itan Detroit Attorneys Division
of Israel Bonds at a tribute din-
ner at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 13,
at Congregation Shaarey Zedek.
Judge Shepherd and Mr.
Miller will each be presented with
the "State of Israel Eleanor Roo-
sevelt Humanities Award" for
their contributions to the legal
profession.
Judge Shepherd sat on the
bench of the Michigan Court of
Appeals from 1983 until his re-
tirement in October 1994. Prior to
his appointment, he served as an
Assistant United States Attorney,
a Special Assistant Attorney Gen-
eral for the State of Michigan,
Wayne County Commissioner, an
Instructor in Political Science at
Wayne State University and was
engaged in the private practice of
law for 23 years.
Judge Shepherd has also been
involved in a variety of civic af-
fairs. hH served as president of
the Jewish Community Council

of Metropolitan Detroit and has
been a member of its executive
board.
Mr. Miller, a member of the
Metro Detroit Israel Bonds Ex-
ecutive Board and co-chairman
of the israel Bonds Attorney Di-
vision, is a senior partner in the
law firm of Lopatin, Miller,
Freedman, Bludstone, Herskovic
and Heilman. He has been in pri-
vate practide of law since 1961.
Active with the Association of
Trial Lawyers of America, he has
served on its board of governors
since 1976 and is a former ATLA
vice president. Mr. Miller also has
been active with the Michigan
Trial Lawyers Association, serv-
ing as its president during 1975-
76.
Mr. Miller also has been active
in a variety of civic affairs a for-
mer co-chair of alumni fund rais-
ing for the Wayne State Law
School and a long-time support-
er of the Allied Jewish Campaign.
