AJE Holds
Annual Meeting

The Agency for Jewish Education
of Metropolitan Detroit will hold
its annual meeting on Thursday,
June 15, at Congregation Beth
Abraham Hillel Moses for the pur-
pose of electing its members of the
board of directors. The meeting,
which begins at 7:30 p.m., will be
preceded by a dessert reception at
7 p.m. The evening will also fea-
ture a keynote address, "Building
a Learning Community," by Rab-
bi Steven Greenberg, senior teach-
ing fellow with CLAL-National
Jewish Center for Learning and
Leadership.
Nominations to serve a three-
year term as at-large directors
are: Rabbi William Gershon, Dr.
Lynda Giles, Michael Kasky,
James Moses and James Safran.
Nominated to serve one year of a
three-year term is Joel Gershen-
son. In addition, the following
slate is nominated: for a two-year
term, Ruth Beitner, Barbara
Bloom, Alex Blumenberg, Terran
Ligemis, Robert Mellen and Ellen
Bates Brackett; for a one-year
term, Robert Berlow, Peggy
Frank, James Jonas, Barbara
Klarman, Lawrence Lax and
Michael Traison.
Also nominated for represen-
tative directors for a two-year
term are Richard Barr, Joan Fire-
stone, Jessie Stern, Marc Dunn,
Bernard Mindell; and for a one-
year term, Nena Chudnoff, Scott
Cranis, Alyssa Martina, Rabbi
Eric Krohner, and Mindy
Nathan. The recommended slate
of officers is as follows: Barbara
Klarman, president; Dr. Lynda
Giles, Lawrence Lax, vice presi-
dents; James Safran, treasurer;
and Peggy Frank, secretary.
In accordance with the bylaws,
other individuals may be nomi-
nated for an at-large directorship
by a petition if signed by not less
than 25 members of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan De-
troit and filed with the AJE Pres-
ident Robert Berlow not less than
seven days prior to the date of the
annual meeting. Only one person
may be nominated in each peti-
tion and no nomination is valid
unless the nominee consents to
be a candidate in writing.

Torah Center
Classes Set

Bais Chabad Torah Center will
hold to two, new, eight-week
classes on "Jewish Kaballa and
Mysticism" beginning Sunday,
June 11, at the Torah Center.
Rabbi Elimelech Silberberg will
use Tanya, written by Rabbi
Shneur Zalman of Liadi, to ex-
plain and teach components of
Jewish mysticism.
A 10:30 a.m. class will be avail-
able for intermediate and ad-
vanced students while an 11:30
a.m. class will be available for be-
ginners. For information, call the

The Women's Shabbos Group
will meet 5:30 p.m. Saturday,
May 27 at the home of Laurel
Fink, 6623 Heatherheath, West
Bloomfield.

Parenting Center
Classes Set

Kitchen Table III is a morning
class for moms and their babies,
birth through 15 months. Ruth
Beresh leads the class Wednes-
day, May 31, at 10 a.m. at the Ap-
plebaum Parenting Center.
Evenings at the Kitchen Table
is for moms and their babies,
birth through 15 months. Ruth
Beresh leads this class beginning
Tuesday, June 20, from 7-8 p.m.
Bereavement Group is for
young widows and widowers with
teen-age children or younger. Ses-
sion II begins June 20 from 7-9
p.m. Baby-sitting is available by
reservation.

Rabbi Leff
Keynote Speaker

Rabbi Zev Leff will be the guest
speaker for Machon L'Torah's an-
nual banquet Wednesday, May
31, at the Plaza Hotel, Southfield,
this year.
Rabbi Leff, a native of New
York, received his ordination at
Telshe Yeshiva of Cleveland. He
serves as dean of Moshav Ma-
tisyahu's Rabbinical college and
is the spiritual leader of Congre-
gation Ateret Nof in Jerusalem.
Rabbi Leff also is the rabbinic di-
rector of Bnos Rochel Seminary
The Leadership Network of B'nai and dean of Machon Daniel in
