The Sinai Hospital Guild recently
hosted its 42nd Annual Luncheon
and Installation meeting.
The newly installed Guild officers
are Sandra Schwartz, president;
Marian Kantor, vice president/f md
raising Helene Lublin, correspond-
ing secretary; Janelle Miller, finan-
cial secretary; Sally Krugel,
assistant financial secretary; Carol
Blacher, treasurer; and Betsy
Loomus, assistant treasurer.
Continuing as Guild officers are
Rose Rita Goldman, Marlene Grop-
man, Rose Lynn Schlussel and
Trudy Weiss.
The Sinai Hospital Guild pre-
sented $42,000 to Dr. David
Schwartz, Obstetrics and Gynecol-
ogy Department chairperson, to sup-
port the Advanced Technical
Training, which trains Sinai ob-
stetrics/gynecology residents and at-
tending physicians in complex
endoscopic surgery techniques and
other new procedures. The Guild
also donated $25,000 for general re-
search and $10,000 from gift shop
proceeds for Tay Sachs screening.
Tay Sachs is a fatal genetic disease
common to Jews of eastern Euro-
pean descent.

—he 15th annual Hadassah tennis tour-
nament will be held Thursday, June 8,
at Franklin Racquet Club. For the first
time, the event is a one-day affair, beginning
at 9 a.m. and concluding by 3 p.m.
The tournament will be round-robin style for
both double s and singles players. Trophies will
be awarded to the finalists in each bracket.
The fee of $30 a person is a non-refundable,
tax-deductible donation to Hadassah. All par-
ticipants will receive a Hadassah T-shirt, lunch
and refreshments. In addition, drawings for
door prizes will be held throughout the day.

Two Named To Chair
Bar-Ilan Dinner

S

usan Pappas and Dennis Bernard have recently been named
Bar-Ilan University's Detroit dinner chairmen.
Mrs. Pappas, as well as her husband Norm, have been ac-
tive friends of Bar-Ilan since the late 1970s and co-chaired a Detroit
Federation mission. Mrs. Pappas was an active member of the
American Women for Bar-Ilan, is a past dinner arrangements
chairman and last year served both as vice chairman and most
particularly as co-chairman for the University's 40th Anniversary
Journal. Mrs. Pappas is a past secretary of Federation's Womens
Division Campaign Executive Committee, and is a board mem-
ber of that division as well as being active in the general campaign. She has served on the boards
of the Jewish Community Center, the Hebrew Free Loan Association, and the Jewish Voca-
tional Service, and has been an active member of Weizmann Institute, JARC, ORT, National
Council of Jewish Women and Temple Beth-El.
Dennis Bernard was among the very first of the current UJA Young Leadership people to be-
come closely affiliated with Bar-Ilan University beginning his activity in 1987. He has chaired
a number of the University's Detroit events, including new prospects night. He and his wife
Hadas have visited campus and are personally acquainted with the University's top leadership.
Mr. Bernard is a member of the UJA National Young Leadership Cabinet. He is on the execu-
tive committee of the Jewish Vocational Service and was president of Federation's Young Adults
Division when that campaign exceeded $500,000 for the first time. He also is an active partici-
pant of State of Israel Bonds, ORT, Adat Shalom Synagogue, Jewish Big Brothers and AIPAC.
