Himelhoch, assistant director of
the Michigan/Israel Connection.
Last summer, Jeff Kaye, com-
munity shaliach with the
Michigan Israel Connection, at-
tended various music festivals in
search of an events coordinator.
He met and eventually hired Mr.
Watts.
Part of Mr. Watts' job involves
setting up the stage where Israeli
entertainers will perform.
At 3 p.m., Chani Nachmias
brings to Detroit her performance
of Israeli and American nursery
rhymes. She will be followed by the
Israeli jazz band Esta at 4:15 p.m.
Later, local musician Michael
HarPaz will perform with the
Hillel Day School Choir. Israeli
pop musician David Broza ends
the live entertainment with his
7 p.m. appearance.
Jewish Experiences For
Families (JEFF), a key festival
planner, is responsible for trans-
forming part of the soccer field
into the Jewish Federation's
Partnership 2000 Central Galilee
Region, Detroit's sister region in
Israel.

Along with its co-sponsors, the
Agency for Jewish Education, the
Labor Zionist Family, Labor
Zionist Alliance, Habonim Dror
and Na'amat USA, JEFF will
provide an opportunity for fam-
ilies to participate in a mock
archeological dig, see kibbutz an-
imals, sample biblical foods and
learn about modern Israel and its
technology.

Months of planning,
for inside or out.

"Whenever JEFF puts on a
community-wide family event,
we plan to have enough materi-
als for 250-300 families to do each
activity, knowing that each fam-
ily will not participate in every
one," said Sue Stettner, JEFF di-
rector.
The Incredible Israel Fest is
sponsored by Federation, its
Michigan/Israel Connection and
the Jewish Community Center
and co-sponsored by The Jewish
News. ❑

can financing of terrorism as a
conspiracy to defame patriotic
Arab-Americans. Sorry fellas, but
if you are serious about stopping
terrorism then you support laws
to prevent its abetment.
I've also heard the argument
that Jews wouldn't like any ef-
fort made to cut off funds from
Jewish extremists, but the pro-
posed laws do not make any dis-
tinction with regard to race,
ethnicity or religion and Jews are
not complaining.
It is unfortunate that Arab-
Americans are stigmatized be-
cause of the actions of people with
a common origin. But it would
not be a problem if terrorist acts

were not regularly committed
against Jews and no one from the
United States supported the
murderers. The Oklahoma City
bombing was not the work of
Middle Eastern terrorists, but
Americans have been victims on
the Achille Lauro, Pan Am 103,
the Beirut Embassy and Marine
barracks, the World Trade Cen-
ter, the hostage crises in Iran and
Lebanon and a host of other
atrocities. Tough action is need-
ed to ensure Americans never
have to endure the scenes of Ok-
lahoma City ever again.
