The Jewish Parents Institute
will honor seven boys and four
girls at the annual B'nai Mitz-
vah Rite of Passage Ceremony
to be held the morning of Satur-
day, May 21, at the Maple-Drake
building.
They have completed a year
of intensive study, community
service and personal introspec-
tion into the obligations and re-
sponsibilities of becoming an
adult member of the Jewish
Community.
The students include Julie
Allen of Farmington Hills, David

Lindsay Crowe of Bloomfield
Hills, Andrew DeSilva of West
Bloomfield, David Eule of
Northville, Sandra Katz of

Moshe and Ruth Goodman will
be presented with the Commu-
nity Service Award at the Bais
Chabad Torah Center dinner
Monday night, 6:30 p.m. June 12,

munity Center. The award will
be presented to the Goodmans by
Phil Jacobs, editor of The Jewish
News, in appreciation for close to
10 years of service to the com-
munity through establishing and

Will Speak

Joe Stroud, editor of the Detroit
Free Press, will be the featured
speaker at the Edith Selker
Frank Memorial Lecture on
Thursday, May 25, 7 p.m. at the
Jimmy Prentis Morris Jewish
Community Center. His topic will
be "A Perspective on Current Af-
fairs." The program, sponsored by
Maida and Bob Portnoy, Rachel,
Edward and Mira Portnoy, fam-
ily of the late Mrs. Frank, also will
be hosted by the Institute for Re-
tired Professionals.
The lecture is open to the pub-
lic at no charge. A dessert buffet
will follow the lecture.

Students of the Jewish Parent
Institute have created a series
of ceiling tiles depicting the en-
tire calendar of Jewish holidays.
The tiles are to be donated to My
Jewish Discovery Place, the
hands-on museum for children,
located in the Maple-Drake Jew-
ish Community Center.
These works of art will be in-
stalled on the Discovery Muse-
urn ceiling. A dedication
