He is sharing those duties, with Wendy Schulhof Silverman of Brookville, N.Y., for the July 1997 World Maccabiah Games because the juniors group will be made up of at least 80 athletes ages 12-16. A minimum of six sports will be offered: boys basketball, boys soc- cer, swimming, table tennis, ten- nis and track and field. There's a possibility that girls soccer and/or girls volleyball could be added by officials in Israel, and the U.S. would be interested in sending representatives. "Being the juniors chairman has become a big job," said Robin- son, 59, a West Bloomfield resi- dent and the owner of Beacon Hill Construction in Southfield. 'We have to raise funds, con- duct nationwide tryouts, secure coaches, obtain uniforms, work with the heads of each of the sports — everything that needs to be done to get the kids to Israel and make sure everything goes well there," Robinson said. This will be the fourth con- secutive time that Robinson has attended the World Mac- cabiah Games. After watching his 16 ju- niors compete in 1985, he went to observe and make an initial contact with the Russ- ian delegation in 1989 in hopes of convincing Russian offi- cials to send a team to the JCC North American Maccabi Youth Games in Detroit in 1990. He suc- ceeded. Robinson was in charge of mas- ters track and field and the mas- ters triathlon in the 1993 World Maccabiah Games. He also com- peted in the masters triathlon. In 1984 and 1990, Robinson was general chairman of the JCC Maccabi Youth Games held in De- troit. He was the Detroit delega- tion head for the JCC Maccabi Youth Games in 1986 (Toronto), 1987 (Cleveland), 1988 (Chicago) and 1989 (Pittsburgh) and he's been active with the delegation since then. In addition to his commitments to Maccabi USA/Sports for Israel, Robinson is a board member of the Maccabi Club of Detroit and the Detroit JCC. Being involved with Maccabi is a Robinson family affair.
