exercise that opportunity intelli-
gently and sensitively."
For now, Mr. Handleman con-
templates his next book and film
project. He figures that he has
more than 40 book ideas, and
about 10 ideas for film projects.
The biggest obstacle, he conceded,
is finding the time.
Until his next project is com-
pleted, he is content to talk about
"perspective" and contemplate his
next move with the thoroughness
of a philosopher. Although the
same type of perspective may nev-
er come to those MIA families,
"Our Missing In Action" offers a
catharsis that might bring some
peace of mind. ❑

Mesa Arts

32800 FRANKLIN RD.
FRANKLIN, MI 48025
(810) 851-9949
A deeply felt affinity for Native
American and Southwest culture
and landscape permeates the art
and sculpture at MESA ARTS. The
artifacts represent the earth, cultur-
al brotherhood and global harmo-
ny. According to Native American
beliefs there is nobility and spirit in
the humblest being. The bear, for
example, represents stewardship
over the earth, wildness and human
respect for that wildness. In print-
ings and watercolors, man and an-
imals are brought together in studies
that are joyous, tender and bold.
Mesa Arts' Southwest art and jew-
elry, pottery, sculpture, furniture and
weavings nurture and enrich the hu-
man spirit.
