Israel Walk
Celebration Set

NFTY Plans
Weekend Event

The community is invited to take
part in the 3.5-mile "Walk for
Israel" at 1 p.m. May 21 at the
Jewish Community Center
Maple-Drake Building.
The walk of solidarity through
West Bloomfield is in celebration
of the 47th anniversary of the
state of Israel. The walk kicks off
the "Incredible Israel Fest" an af-
ternoon filled with fun, enter-
tainment and activities for
individuals and families of all
ages.
Refreshments will be provid-
ed at Temple Israel and at the
Center. Volunteers from the Jew-
ish Federation's Young Adult
Division will be stationed
throughout the walk route to
assist people.
After the walk, everyone is in-
vited to enjoy a picnic lunch or
purchase Israeli and/or Ameri-
can cuisine while enjoying Israeli
child entertainer Chani Nach-
mias at 3 p.m.
The sounds of jazz can be
heard by the Israeli jazz band
Esta at 4:15 p.m. Detroit's own
Michael HarPaz will perform his
original music and will be joined
by the Hillel Day School Choir at
6:15 p.m. The evening will cul-
minate with the 7:30 p.m.
performance of David Broza
who will sing his many Hebrew
songs.
For details, call the Jewish
Federation's Michigan Israel
Connection, (810) 645-7878.
The Israel Fest and Walk for
Israel will be highlighted on
Shaarey Zedek Productions' cable
show throughout May. Host Geri
Levit interviews Jennifer L. Mat-
tler, co-chairman of the Walk for
Israel with Jeffrey Sternberg. The
two will discuss the festivities
planned for the afternoon festival
celebrating the 47th anniversary
of the state of Israel.

All 8th and 9th graders from Re-
form congregations are invited to
participate in NFTY's FreshCo
weekend, the annual opening
event for next year's freshmen
and sophomores, to be held May
20-21, at the Camp Mass in Or-
tonville.
FreshCo will be an opportuni-
ty to meet other teens and learn
about NFTY (the North Ameri-
can Federation of Temple Youth)
which consists of temple youth
groups from across the country.
For an application to FreshCo
or for information, call the NFTY-
Michigan Region office in Ann Ar-
bor, (313) 668-2722.
