ichigan Branch of Women's League for Conserva-
tive Judaism Spring Conference will be held Sun-
day and Monday, May 21-22, at Congregation
Ahavas Israel in Grand Rapids.
Conference Chairpersons are Sharon Silverman and Carol
Tarica. Michigan Branch President is Florence Gerber.
The theme of the conference is "Walk in the Path of Un-
derstanding". Linda Zweig, national consultant from Pacific
Southwest Branch, will deliver the keynote address, "Do We
Really Understand the Paths We're Walking On?" at the Sun-
day evening banquet. Having spent half of her life as a professional volunteer in the Jewish com-
munity and since 1980 with Women's League, Ms. Zweig is now pursuing a master's degree in
business of non-profit Jewish organizations at the University ofJudaism in California.
Sunday evening also will include Ann Arbor playwright, theater critic,and free-lance writer,
Rachel Urist
Rachel Felbin Urist, who will speak on "Queen Esther Revisited: Jewish Women and the Paths of Wisdom."
Sunday's luncheon will honor new volunteers from Michigan Branch's sisterhoods and Monday's luncheon will honor spe-
cial anniversary sisterhoods.
Monday morning, delegates will participate in a Shacharit service led by Ahavas Israel Sisterhood and followed by a Torah
study session led by Rabbi David Krishef, Ahavas Israel.
Other conference events include Women's League National Board Member, Faye Ullmann speaking on "In Our Footsteps?
Understanding Life's Dilemmas" and Women's League National award-winning musical "All That Shul Jazz" which was
written by a member of Beth Israel, Flint Sisterhood.

emple Israel Sisterhood's new president will
be Sandi Stocker. She has been an active sis-
terhood member for many years, beginning
with her position as youth adviser. She progressed
to vice president of youth, financial vice president,
vice president of ways and means and vice presi-
dent of committee on committees. She also has
been active at Temple Israel on the Religious School
Committee, Leadership Development Committee

Ida Rae Chahana

antor Ida Rae Cahana will participate
in thenext Schmier Chapel Chamber
Concert on Sunday, May 21, at 7:30
p.m., at Temple Israel. She and Cantor
Harold Orbach will offer "The Psalms in
Song."
Cantor Cahana is originally from Pitts-
burgh. She has been singing Jewish music
in the synagogue and on the concert stage
for over two decades and has performed on ,4z
Broadway and sung opera in regional coin- ,--rj
panies in this country and in Europe. She
presently serves at Congregation Shomer
Emunim in Sylvania, Ohio, a Toledo sub-
urb.

Event Planned

Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, will co-spon-
or a free Naturalization Workshop on May
17, from 1-9 p.m. the workshop will be held
at the Jewish Family Service Building,
24123 Greenfield road, Southfield.
The workshop is a help session for new
Americans who emigrated from the for-
mer Soviet Union five years ago and are
now eligible for United States citizen-
ship. Over 200 new Americans have
registered to date.
Staff will be joined by volunteers to
assist in filing naturalization appli-
cations, taking photographs and fin-
gerprinting.
