Slates Concerts
The Farmington Community
Band will present its annual
May concert Sunday, May 7, at
3 p.m. in the Harrison High
School auditorium. This year's
program, titled "Melodies of
Love," will feature Mike Deja is
well known as the Sunday morn-
ing host of "Patterns in Music"
on WJR.
Farmington senior citizens
will again be honored guests at
this concert.
This annual event is a joint ef-
fort of many Farmington com-
munity groups working together
to honor and transport senior cit-
izens and handicapped individ-
uals to the concert.
This concert is free and home-
made refreshments will be
served. Harrison High School is
located on Twelve A/lie Road, be-
tween Middlebelt and Orchard
Lake Roads in Farmington Hills.
The band will continue its tra-
ditional summer concert series
by performing three concerts this
summer in Heritage Park, Farm-
ington Hills.
Opening the season will be a
light hearted musical treat in
Heritage Park featuring the FCB
Concert Band on Thursday, May
25, at 8 p.m.
On June 21, the Community
Band will help the AAA Michi-
gan Farmington Hills Branch
celebrate its first anniversary at
the new location by presenting a
musical program on the lawn at
the branch. The AAA Farming-
ton Hills Branch is located at
38751 W. 12 Mile, between Hal-
stead and Haggerty Roads. The
concert begins at 7 p.m.
On June 22, the band returns
to Heritage Park and will pre-
sent its second of three concerts
scheduled in the park's beauti-
ful setting at 8 p.m.
Concluding its summer sea-
son, the FCB Jazz Band will per-
form many jazz favorites on July
20, in Heritage Park, also at 8
p.m.
SRO Stages
A Thriller
SRO Productions, sponsored by
the city of Southfield and the Se-
nior Arts League, will present
Ira Levin's Veronica's Room, a
psychological thriller.
Shows will be on May 5, 6, 7,
12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21. Fridays
and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and
Sundays at 12 p.m.
Performances will be held in
the historic church located at the
corner of Civic Center Drive and
Berg Road (one block east of
Telegraph Road) in Southfield.
Ticket prices are $7 for the gen-
eral public and $6 for children
under 12 and senior adults.
The Detroit Symphony Orches-
tra will return to Meadow Brook
Music Festival for a week-in res-
idency featuring four concerts
July 21-23, which are presented
by Ameritech.
On Friday, July 21, at 8 p.m.
Maestro Jarvi will lead the DSO
in a program of "Beethoven's Big
Fives."
On Saturday, July 22, at 8
p.m., music by three of Russia's
most notorious composers will
create the theme for the second
classical concert with Mr. Jarvi
and the DSO.
On Saturday, July 22, at noon,
DSO assistant conductor Lan
Shui will conduct the Orchestra
in the Classical Kids program
"Beethoven Lives Upstairs."
The DSO will conclude its
weekend of the concerts with a
laser Light Spectacular featur-
ing the music of the John
Williams, composer of motion
picture soundtracks such as Star
Wars, Raiders of the Lost Arc
and E. T. as well as music of oth-
er great Hollywood Film com-
posers.

Will Play
On Sunday, May 7, at 3 p.m. at
Groves High School, the Birm-
ingham Concert Band, under the
direction of Grant Hoemke, will
feature music with a flourish.
There is no admission charge,
but donations to Birmingham
Concert Band for their Inter-
lochen Scholarship Fund are en-
couraged and appreciated.
