"When I was 14, I listened to Texile on Main Street.' " That was 18 years ago. Now he's part of the "in" crowd, shar- ing the same address — staying at plush hotels — as part of the Stones' inner circle on tour. Andy Snitzer went from audi- tion to performance in a "Jumpin' Jack Flash." On July 1, Mr. Snitzer had his first tryout with the band. Two weeks later, he was headed for Washington to perform with the members in concert. "This is not just another sum- mer gig," laughs Mr. Snitzer. "It's surreal." "At any one particular moment while I'm up on stage, it's a job," says Mr. Snitzer. "But then here I am watching Mick Jagger singing `Jumpin' Jack Flash,' " flashing back to the time when "I was singing that song at camp when I was 12. And I'm thinking 'This is insane!' "It's amazing to look out on 60,000 people and see them rockin'," Mr. Snitzer says of the football stadiums where he and the Stones perform. Andy Snitzer is not about to get off his cloud soon from this dream job — the tour runs to July 31 and takes in Canada and South America as well as the United States. "Now I'll see the world in high style," says Mr. Snitzer of the pri- vate 727 the group charters as well as the deluxe hotels the Stones stay in. "This is wonderful, great — but I miss home," he says of Fort Lee, N.J. And make no mistake, says Andy Snitzer. Life isn't "sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll." "Honky Tonk Women" is a song, not a lifestyle for the Stones, he says. "I knew before this tour about the popular notion of what happens backstage," says Mr. Snitzer. "It's not what people think it is. In reality, the tour is very organized, well-run. There are not huge parties going on all the time." Surely, these middle-aged rockers are not conducting mid- dle-of-the-road lives? "But they are family men," says Mr. Snitzer. "Their kids often come on the road with them." Aren't the Stones party to shenanigans? "Wild parties? No," says Mr. Snitzer. In singing their praises, Andy Snitzer concedes, "They're not choirboys. Sure, there are parties, but there's no outlandish be- havior."
