Election Dinner

Music Camp
Applications

The Institute for Retired Profes-
sions will hold its Annual Elec-
tion Dinner 5:30 p.m. on
Wednesday, May 3, at Congre-
gation Beth Achim.
Douglas Bloom, president of
the Jewish Community Center,
will install the newly elected of-
ficers and members-at-large.
They are: Jack Hurwitz, presi-
dent; Sidney Levine, Alvin Lue-
beck, and Sylvia Serwin, vice
presidents; May Bodzin, secre-
tary; Jordan Isaacs, treasurer;
Kurt Bauer, Sidney Resnick,
David Hoptman and Gloria
Krause, members-at-large.
Entertainment for the evening
will feature Ellen Sandweiss-
Hodges accompanied by Barbara
Ritter in a "Musical Narrative
Revue." There is a charge and
guests are welcome. For reser-

The Lyric Chamber Ensemble,
celebrating its 15th year of pre-
senting concerts in the metro De-
troit area, is now taking
applications for auditions for
Summer Music Experience '95
— a two-week day camp to take
place at Oakland Community
College Auburn Hills Campus
from July 7-21. Several full schol-
arships will be offered once again
to talented students who have
immigrated to the United States
from the Soviet Union.
Students will receive 10 full
days of classes in music theory,
jazz, concert band, orchestra,
master classes, and chamber mu-
sic coaching. The camp will con-
clude with two student
performances — one featuring
chamber ensembles and the oth-
er a program of orchestral, band,
and jazz music.
Faculty members include
members of the Detroit Sym-
phony Orchestra and other local
professional ensembles, as well
as some of the area's most promi-
nent music educators. Full and
partial scholarships are available
to students with financial need.

JPM Seniors
Activities Set

On Tuesday, May 2, at 1 p.m., at
the Jimmy Prentis Morris Jew-
ish Community Center, Nurse
Sharon, from the Oakland Coun-
ty Health Department, will pre-
sent information on ways to get
the most from a visit to the doc-
tor. There is no charge for this
event.
The Glassman Israel Inde-
pendence Day Party will take
place on Thursday, May 4, at 1
p.m. at JPM. The Sam Barnett
Orchestra will provide dance mu-
sic; there will be refreshments.
Get tickets in advance by show-
ing a membership card at the re-
ception desk. This party is free
of charge, but it is limited to JCC
members only.
Dor L'Dor will sponsor its last
even of the year on Friday, May
5, at Butzel. Hillel students and
area seniors will enjoy a full day
of camp life. Included will be a
kosher lunch. This event is co-
sponsored by the JCC, Jewish
Federation Apartments, Jewish
Home for Aged, Hillel Day School
and the National Council for
Jewish Women. The bus will
leave from JPM at 9 a.m. There
is no charge.
The 50th anniversary of World
War II Victory Day will take
place on Sunday, May 7, begin-
ning at noon. In Charlotte Roth-
stein Park, Mayor Gerald
Naftaly will deliver a proclama-
tion, which will be followed by
a parade. At 1:30 p.m. the fes-
tivities will continue at Temple
Emanu El with a candlelighting
ceremony, speeches, and enter-
tainment. At 3 p.m., the JCC will
offer exhibits refreshments.
There is no charge. -

JPI Hosts
Open House

Dennis Myles, design manager
of Chrysler Corporation, will be
the guest speaker at JPI's open
house to be held on Sunday,
April 30, at the Maple-Drake
Jewish Community Center.
JPI is an organization dedi-
cated to promoting a positive sec-
ular Jewish identity for children
and their parents. The open
house will give prospective mem-
bers of JPI the opportunity to
meet with parents already in-
volved in the program while their
children are integrated into the
regular Sunday school day. Cof-
fee and bagels will be available.

WSU Alumni
Hold Meetings

Members of the Gamma Kappa
Chi Alumni Fraternity of Wayne
State University will hold a se-
ries of luncheon meetings in May
at 12:30 p.m. each Thursday at
