Shamrock Makes
Down Payment

The U.S. Shamrock Group will
give Hevrat Ha'ovdim a $10 mil-
lion clown payment as part of its
purchase of 22.5 percent of Koor
Industries' shares. The Sham-
rock Group is an investment firm
controlled by the Disney family.
Koor's shares have risen 10.6
percent since March 6, when
Shamrock signed an agreement in
principle to purchase the shares.

Tecnomatix Technologies of Is-
rael announced that the Volk-
swagen group of Wolfsburg,
Germany, has adopted Tecno-
matix's Robcad line of computer-
aided production engineering
tools as its standard solution for
the design, simulation and pro-
gramming of its automated pro-
duction lines throughout its
companies worldwide.

High Rates
Aren't Helping

The Bank of Israel's contention
that high interest rates have
slowed down the inflation rate is
not true, Chambers of Commerce
president Danny Gillerman said.
'The CPI (Consumer Price In-
dex) for the first quarter of the
year proved that the interest pol-
icy does not now have, and al-
most never had, any influence on
the rate of inflation," Mr. Giller-
man said. "If there was any ef-
fect, it was certainly negative."
Mr. Gillerman, who called for
an immediate reduction in in-
terest rates, said it is not possi-
ble that short-term rates could
influence either the price of fruits
and vegetables or apartments.
"Analysis of the rise in the
CPI, excluding these two factors,
shows that in the January-
March period this year the CPI
rose 1.2 percent," Mr. Gillerman
said. "This rate is almost identi-
cal to the rise in CPI in the 1994
parallel period, which was 1.25
percent."
