nent male figure in both cult and
myth. The God of Israel had no
consort and is not identified with
any force of nature.
The rules identified in this
chapter against idolatry, incest,
homosexual practices, or inter-
course with animals all urge the
heeding of the will of God against
the pagan practices of both Egypt
and Canaan.

served on the Detroit Jewry Corn-
mittee of the Jewish Community
Council and has briefed other
travelers to the Soviet Union who
visited refusniks.
