THE

Observance Set
At The JCC

The community is invited to at-
tend the Yom Hazikaron (Israel
Memorial Day) observance at 7
p.m. May 2, in the Maple-Drake
Jewish Community Center.
The ceremony will be high-
lighted by the unveiling of a
memorial quilt which more than
300 4th-12th grade students in
area religious schools and youth
groups created.
Each square of the 24-piece
quilt describes in words and sym-
bols the life of an Israeli fallen
soldier. Also during the ceremo-
ny, students will present an-
thologies of drawings, poetry and
prose about the soldiers that they
studied.
Bus captains from the Michi-
gan Miracle Mission II will ac-
cept the memorial items made
by the students and present
them during a special ceremony
in Jerusalem.
Michelle Pearlman, the Zamir
Chorale and Cantor Chaim Na-
jman will present the musical
portions of the tribute, in re-
membrance of the 17,000 men
and women who have given their
lives to safeguard Israel's free-
dom and independence since it
became a state 47 years ago.
For details, call the Michi-
gan/Israel Connection, (810) 645-
7878.
