Women's, and Business and Pro-
fessional Women's Divisions invite
families and individuals to take
part in the Volunteer Extrava-
ganza on May 7, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
At the Max M. Fisher Building,
participants will receive assign-
ments and directions to the loca-
tion where they will plant trees,
flowers, shrubs in core city neigh-
borhoods in the city of Detroit. Ma-
terials will be provided. However,
donations of flowers, seeds and
gardening equipment for the event
are appreciated.
The "Volunteer Extravaganza"
was established by the Jewish
Federation to bring people to-
gether and make a positive con-
tribution on behalf of the entire
metropolitan Detroit communi-
ty.

JARC Adults
Casino Night
JARC (Jewish Association for Res-
idential Care) Young Adult Com-
mittee will host a Casino Night for
JARC clients on Tuesday, April 25,
at Temple Beth El at 7 p.m.
Participants of JARC's inde-
pendent living programs will join
the Young Adult volunteers for Ve-
gas-style games, prizes, music and
dancing. Chairing the event are
Michelle Cohen, Ron Elkus, Bob
Gordon, Lisa Hersch, David Ja-
cobson, Lilly Jacobson, Robb Lip-
pitt, Margo Rosenthal and Bonnie
Shapiro. Businesses underwriting
the event include Joe Cornell En-
tertainment, 1/2 Off Card Shops
and Detroit Popcorn Company.
The Casino Night is the fourth
Young Adult event for JARC
clients since the committee's in-
ception two years ago.

TV Broadcast
On April 30, a community wide
event with national and inter-
national participants is being or-
ganized by the Jewish National
Fund. The program will be
shown on Continental Cablevi-
sion Channel 32 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Originating in California, the
program will include Peter
Strauss and Ed Asner live, with
taped interviews with Walter
Cronkite, Gregory Peck and sev-
eral other celebrities. The three-
hour broadcast also will include
a March of Survivors in Los An-
geles and a number of Jewish
War Veterans who participated
as liberators.
In addition, information re-
lating to the efforts of Jewish Na-
tional Fund including
afforestation, land reclamation
and the camp memorializing the
children lost in the Holocaust,
Machaneh Hachaim, will be
shown during the broadcast.
Parenting Center
Offers Classes
Certified Babysitting is a class
for 11-year-olds and up to learn
basic first aid, general child care,
how to handle emergency situa-
tions. It is a Red Cross Certified
class. Instructor Michelle Prys-
lac begins this class Wednesday,
April 26, 4-5:30 p.m. At the Ap-
plebaum Jewish Parenting Cen-
ter.
Ready or Not! Starting
Kindergarten is an opportunity
to learn about this major rite of
passage. Elissa Rosenfeld and
Didi Wainess will lead the dis-
cussion Wednesday, April 26, at
7:30 p.m.
Bereavement Group is for
young widows and widowers
with teen-aged children or
younger. The group will meet
with Irma Starr beginning Tues-
day, May 2, 7-9 p.m. Baby-sitting
is available by reservation at no
charge.

Commemoration
Congregation B'nai Moshe
will have a Yom HaShoah
50th Year Commemoration
on Wednesday, April 26, at

Reform Temples
Joint Service
On Friday, April 21, at 8
p.m., members of all Reform
temples will join with Temple
Kol Ami's membership at ser-
vices which honor the memo-
ry of Rabbi Wise, the leading
figure of 19th century Reform
Judaism. In 1875, Rabbi Wise
established Hebrew Union
College, the first American
rabbinical seminary.
The speaker will be Rabbi
Kenneth E. Ehrlich, dean of
HUC, whose topic is "The
Rest Is Commentary."
