The Midrasha Center for Adult
Jewish Learning will provide a
new adult Hebrew learning for-
mat that will offer individualized
instruction in a small group set-
ting, especially designed for those
who know some conversational
Hebrew but find themselves "in
between" levels of existing
Midrasha classes.
The course, called "Midrasha
Hebrew Tutorial," will be offered
in a mini-series of four Monday
nights beginning May 1. Each
week's session will run from 7:30
to 9:30 p.m. The teacher will be
Ronit Goutkovitch, who has had
experience teaching Hebrew in
this small-group tutorial format
at Akiva Hebrew Day School. All
sessions will be held at the
Midrasha, 21550 West 12 Mile
Road, Southfield.
There is a tuition charge for
the Midrasha Hebrew Tutorial;
pre-registration is required, and
the series is contingent on min-
imum enrollment. Depending on
student interest, a summer ses-
sion may be added.
Midrasha is also accepting reg-
istration from new students for its
three Continuing Beginner He-
brew classes which began in Feb-
ruary: Monday nights (every other
week) with Tziona Ragowsky;
Tuesday mornings with Ahuva
Newman; and Wednesdays

"Who's in Charge: You or Your
Child?" will be discussed by Mar-

providing information to young

"The Origins of Impressionism,"
a lecture by Nancy Locke. Assis-
tant professor art history at
WSU, on Wednesday, May 3, at
1 p.m. Dr. Locke will discuss the
history of the early innovations
and controversies of impres-
sionist painting. Registration

The Jewish Film Series will
present "Image Before Mine
Eyes," an award winning docu-
mentary, on Monday, May 1, at
1 p.m. Through home movies,
photographs, memorabilia, mu-
sic and interviews with sur-
vivors, this film resurrects the
life of Jewish Poland before
World War II. Members: free;
non-members: $1.50.
On May 3 from 9:20 a.m. to
4:40 p.m., by appointment only,
screening mammograms will be
done at Maple-Drake by the Mo-
bile Detection Center of the
Michigan Cancer Foundation.
On Thursday, May 4 and 18,
at 7:30 p.m. the Stepparent Con-
nection will meet to discuss com-
mon problems and occurrences

Yom Hazikaron
Celebration
Over 40 organizations and con-
gregations will participate in the
Yom Hazikaron, Israel Memorial
Day, ceremonies and observance
at 7 p.m., May 2, at the Maple-
Drake Jewish Community Center
The observance will honor the
17,000 men and women who give
their lives to safeguard Israel's
freedom and independence since
it became a state 47 years ago.
