A
Healthy and Happy Passover
building at #25 Simtat Mazal
Arie, where the sign read Frank
Meisler Gallery.
This is the headquarters of Is-
rael's most prominent sculptor.
On my previous visit, Mr. Meisler
had graciously given me a tour of
his workroom and studio and
explained the complex process
by which precious metals are
transformed into sculpted works
of art.
This time, the busy sculptor
was out of the country; he was in
Miami supervising the installa-
tion of a new sculpture. But in
this gallery — the largest of three
Meisler galleries in Israel — I
could admire the remarkable cre-
ativity of Mr. Meisler's sculp-
tures.
There were Klezmer musi-
cians, a rabbi on the bimah, plus
a whole range of pieces for Ju-
daica collectors.
Mr. Meisler's larger sculptures
are on display all over the world,
from Statford on Avon in Eng-
land to Boca Raton, Fla. But all
the creativity starts in Old Jaffa,
which has a special mystique for
Mr. Meisler and other Israeli
artists.
Next, it was time to enjoy the
scenic pleasures of Old Jaffa.

*******************************************************
Walking uphill again, I found my
way to the area that overlooks the
Mediterannean and to a spot
where two ancient cannons point
toward the sea.
Here I paused to admire the
sweeping view of the sea, the
curving coastline, and, in the dis-
tance, the modern beachfront ho-
tels of Tel Aviv, the city built from
sand dunes and which began as
an extension of Jaffa.
Not far from here was Raam-
ses Gardens, with its tropical
trees and velvety grass. Here
tourists were walking with cam-
eras, while locals relaxed on the
grass.
Abrasha Park was even more
expansive, with vibrant flowers
giant palm trees, the flags of Is-
rael and Old Jaffa flying. A strik-
ing white sculpture was
positioned among the trees. The
Statue of Faith depicts three bib-
lical scenes: Jacob's dream, the
sacrifice of Isaac and the fall of
Jericho.
The outer border of this park
offers one of the best views in Old
Jaffa. A rounded pavilion direct-
ly overlooks the sea; and here, in
this idyllic setting, a bridal
couple posed for their wedding
photos, standing in a garden
