On a previous visit to Tel Aviv, I had time for only a quick trip to Old Jaffa. But I remembered its special mystique, and I had been eager to return ever since. Bus #10 from Ben Yehuda Street in Tel Aviv brought me to the landmark Clock Tower in Jaf- fa, an exotic Oriental relic built by the former Turkish rulers. Nearby, signs pointed the way to Old Jaffa; and I began the short walk uphill. I would enjoy later; but I began my exploration with the cluster of streets lined with art galleries and antique shops. These varied galleries, all in such a concentrated area, make this sector a pleasure for browsers or serious shoppers. Silver. Antiques. Needlecraft. Judaica. Paintings and prints. All could be found in the shops and the studios of artists and artisans located along the narrow, hilly streets.
