Ira Kaufman
(1896-1986)
Dr. H. J. Gomberg
Dr. Henry Jacob Gomberg, 76, of Ann Arbor,
died April 8. His undergraduate training was
at City College of New York and the Univer-
sity of Michigan, where he received his Ph.D.
in electrical engineering. He received the U-M
Henry Russell Award in 1952, was appointed
to the International Conference on Peaceful
Uses of Atomic Energy in 1955 and was a U.S.
representative of the National Academy of Sci-
ence to the former USSR.
Albion College gave him the honorary degree
of doctor of science in 1968. He received the
Governor's Award for Sepcial services in Puer-
to Rico in 1970.
Dr. Gomberg served as an ensign in research
in the U.S. Navy, was appointed and served as
professor of nuclear engineering at U-M and
later became chairman of the Department of
Nuclear Engineering. He was director of the
Michigan Memorial Phoenix Project, Carnegie
visiting professor at the University of Hawaii,
director of the Puerto Rico Nuclear Center, pres-
ident and CEO of KMS Fusion and KMS In-
dustries. Dr. Gomberg also served as president
and CEO of Ann Arbor Nuclear and of Pen-
etron.
Dr. Gomberg was a fellow of the American

Southfield, died April 9. Mr.
Ainbinder was the loving father
of the late Donald and the late
Edythe; loving grandfather of
the late Leslie Wright. He is
survived by his wife, Rose; son
and daughter-in-law, Irwin and
Ruth Wright of Farmington
Hills; daughter and son-in-law,
Gloria and Dr. Arthur Fisher of
Bloomfield Hills; daughter-in-
law, Marcia Ainbinder; brother,
Hyman of Long Beach, Calif.;

SIDNEY BARACK, 80, of
Bloomfield Hills, died April 6.
Mr. Barack was an insurance
agent and assistant manager
for United Insurance. He was
also a member of B'nai B'rith
and volunteered his time help-
ing people. Mr. Barack was the
beloved husband of the late Eve
Barack. He is survived by his
Nuclear Society, Radiation Research Society,
American Public Health Association and the
American Association for the Advancement
of Science. His memberships also included the
American Physical Society, the Fusion Power
Associatioon, the Institute of Electronic and
Electrical Engineering and the Cosmos Club.
His life was filled with
achievements and recognition
of his accomplishments.
Dr. Gomberg is survived by his wife, Dr.
Edith; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard
and Sara, Robert and Pamela, Stephen and
Susan Lisansky, Eugene Lisansky; daughter,
Judith Lisansky; grandchildren, Anna, Ilsa
and Stephanie. Interment at Arborcrest
