Now through May 28, the
cabaret setting of Detroit's Gem
Theatre has been transformed
into the "Krakatoa Lounge," com-
plete with a bamboo hut, palm
trees, and erupting volcano.
Whether you call them "full-
figured," "robust," or "pleasant-
ly plump," The Lovely Liebowitz
Sisters will take you back to 1945
for some nostalgic big-band and
swing-jazz songs, high-energy
dance routines, and audience
participation schtick that in-
cludes a polka contest and many
more laughs and surprises. A
cross between the Andrew Sis-
ters and the Three Stooges, the
Lovely Liebowitz Sisters offer a
really big evening of music and
comedy that appeals to audi-
ences of all ages. Add to your
night one lounge-lizard, gold-
toothed emcee "Yannis" and the
musical accompaniment by "Bob-
by Argyle" and "His Sox" and
you're in for some fun.
Performance schedule is as fol-
lows:
Wednesdays, 2 p.m., 7:30 p.m.;
Thursday and Friday, 7:30 p.m.;
Saturday, 5 and 9 p.m.: Sunday,
2 and 6 p.m.
Tickets for The Lovely
Liebowitz Sisters are available
at the Gem Theatre Box Office,
(313) 963-9800 or any Ticket-
master outlet.
The Gem Theatre is located
across the street from the State
and Fox Theatres on Woodward
Avenue and adjacent to the El-
wood Bar & Grill.
