Maple-Drake
Event Calendar

The Maple-Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center will present the
following events. A book review
with Ethel Sarwer-Foner will be
held on Tuesday, April 11, at
p.m. to discuss Olivia by Judith
Rosner. Non-members, $1.
Continuing the lunch and
learn series for the spring,
Maple-Drake will present a se-
ries of three programs. The first
will be on Wednesday, April 12:
lunch at noon; lecture at 12:30
p.m. The discussion will cover
"Christianity: Same Roots, Di-
vergent Branches," facilitated by
the Greater Detroit Interfaith
Roundtable. Brown bag a kosher
lunch or buy one in the cafeteria.
Coffee and Tea will be provided.
No charge for health club mem-
bers; JCC members, $1.50; non-
members, $2.50.
On Tuesday, April 18, at 1
p.m. the Hearing Loss Support
Group will meet facilitated by
David Lauffman of the Deaf and
Hearing Impaired Services of
Farmington Hills. The group
meets on the 1st and 3rd 'Tues-
day of each month. Also that day,
Rabbi Leonardo Bitran, a native
of Chile, will discuss the differ-
ences between the assimilated
Jewish community in Chile and
the very large and active Jewish
community in Argentina. Non-
members, $1.50.
The Michigan Cancer Foun-
dation Mobile Detection Center
will have an open house on
Wednesday, April 26, from 10
a.m.-3 p.m. in the Maple-Drake
parking lot. Call Lorraine Mor-

Ken Lawrence, producer of the
World Adventure series, will
teach a creative writing class on
Mondays, beginning May 1, for
six weeks from 10:30 a.m. to

sored by IRP, will be a day trip
to the Toledo Art Museum for a
docent led tour of the Weston

Special Needs
Events Set

The Maple-Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center will offer the fol-
lowing special needs groups
events. The Chaverim group will
present Fun and Fitness on Mon-
day, April 24, from 7-8:30 p.m.
in the Wellness Center. There
will be instruction in the use of
the treadmill, rowing machine,
stairmaster and more. Facilities
will be available for freshening
up. Refreshment will be provid-
ed. Cost, $1.
On Thursday, April 27, from
7:30-9 p.m. at JPM, "A Special
Look At Israel" will be offered. In
celebration of Israel Indepen-
dence Day, Julia Greenblatt of
JEFF, will facilitate a special pro-
gram with an arts and crafts pro-
ject followed by Israeli
refreshments. Respond do Lenie

The Tween Social Group will
meet on Sunday, April 30, at the
Americana West theatre to see

Zamir Chorale
Plans Concert

The Zamir Chorale of Metropol-
itan Detroit will present its An-
nual Spring Concert on Sunday,
April 23, at 4 p.m. at Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek. Zamir De-
troit was founded for the purpose
of preserving andfostering Jew-
ish musical traditions as well as
providing an opportunity for
Jewish people of all traditions to
sing music from the entire Jew-
ish musical repertoire.
The chorale, a recipient of the
Jewish Federation of Metropol-
itan Detroit's Max M. Fisher
Community Foundation is con-
ducted by Benjamin Cohen.
Rochelle Barr is the accompanist.
Cantor Chaim Najman will be
the guest soloist for the concert.
