Symposium Set
For Grandparents

Creative Grandparenting Sympo-
sium II will be held at the Jewish
Community Center at both the
Maple-Drake building on Sunday,
April 23, and the Jimmy Prentis
Morris building on Tuesday, April
25.
On April 23 at Maple-Drake will
feature, from 7-9 p.m. Dr. Arthur
Kornhaber "The Dr. Spock of
Grandparenting" will talk; from
8:10-9:10 p.m., Sondra Schwartz,
with the Merrill Palmer Institute,
will discuss "Maintaining a Rela-
tionship with Your Grandchildren
after Divorce;" also at this time,
Helena Koenig, director of Grand-
travel, Vacations for Grandparents
and Grandchildren, will speak.
On April 25 at JPM from 7-8
p.m., Dr. Ralph Cash, pediatrician
and advice columnist, will give
hints for passing on accumulated
wisdom. From 8:10-9:10 p.m., Her-
lene Appleman, director of Edu-
cational Services - Agency for
Jewish Education, will discuss
"Will My Grandchildren Be Jew-
ish?"

Senior Events
Set At JPM

Nurse Sharon from the Oakland
Public Health Department will
conduct a special program on sub-
stance abuse on Tuesday, April 4,
at 1 p.m. at the Jimmy Prentice
Morris Jewish Community Cen-
ter. This program will be trans-
lated into Russian and will cover
topics that concern many adults
and their families, such as smok-
ing, drugs, and alcohol abuse.
There is no charge for this event..
An intergenerational model
Passover seder will be sponsored
by the Dor L'Dor program on Fri-
day, April 7. This seder will take
place at the Hillel Day School and
will involve their sixth-grade stu-
dents. The van will leave the JPM
building at p.m. This program is
free of charge, but call 967-4030 to
reserve a seat on the van.
An ongoing woodcarving class
meets weekdays from 9 a.m. to
noon at JPM. There is no charge.
Every Monday at 9:30 a.m. at
JPM, Dr. Charles Slow of Sinai
Hospital will facilitate the Holo-
caust Survivors' Support Group.
For information, call Dr. Silow,
356-6668. There is no charge.
Vivian Stollman, accompanied
by Sonny Lipenholtz, leads the
choir every Monday afternoon at
12:30 p.m. Traditional Jewish folk
songs as well as current tunes and
old favorites are sung. There is no
charge.
