Darchei Torah pupils
conclude Torah portions
with a party.

ith fruit roll-ups and brownies, the sec-
ond- and third-grade boys at Yeshivas
Darchei Torah learned Sunday about the
sweetness of achievement.
At a gathering in one of the brightly decorat-
ed classrooms, the children, some in costume in

preparation for Purim, came to celebrate their latest
accomplishment in finishing a portion of the Torah.
"This gives them the enthusiasm for learning and
inspires them to study even harder for the next Torah
portion," said Sara Kahn, principal of the school.
The second-grade class had just finished the Vayet-
ze parsha while the third-graders wrapped up She-
mot earlier in the week, Ms. Kahn said.
"This is the kind of thing the kids get excited about,"
she said. "We want them to continue that excitement
about learning."
The students, taking a break from their six-day
school week, munched on popcorn and listened as Rab-
bi Moshe Pirutinsky of New York gave a speech, en-
couraging the boys to go further with their studies.
The students were also treated to a Purim story.
The third-graders had dressed for the occasion in the
colorful costumes of their favorite biblical character.
After the party, the students returned to their stud-
ies, starting their next Torah portion. ❑
