DeParting Daily Back To Your Childhood
Roni Horn
Exhibit Set
An exhibition of works by New
York artist Roni Horn will be on
view at the Susanne Hilberry
Gallery through March 25.
Roni Horn is best known for
her perfectly crafted objects,
which sometime incorporate lit-
erary text, and drawings with
pure pigments that have an en-
crusted object-like quality. One
of Ms. Horn's interests is how her
objects animate the space in
which they are placed. In view-
ing the work the experience does
not lie completely in the visual
realm. The essence of the work is
a combination of conceptual,
metaphorical and spiritual im-
pulses.
The Susanne Hilberry Gallery
is located at 555 South Wood-
ward, Birmingham. Hours are
Tuesday through Saturday from
11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For information,
call the Gallery, (810) 642-8250.

Bunting Mounts
Humes Exhibit
Bunting Gallery will mount an
exhibit of recent paintings and
drawings by Detroit artist
Thomas Humes through March
25.
That tradition and considera-
tions of style are important to Mr.
Humes is apparent in the work
presented in this collection. Here,
this artist creates portraits,
dreamy stage sets, and figural
compsitions that rival the best of
painting's tradition, recalling
such masters as Raphael, Rem-
brandt, Goya, and the more mod-
ern work of the early De Kooning
and Diebenkorn. But for a con-
temporary artist such as Mr.
Humes, what distinguishes him
from others is his originality.
Gallery hours are: Tuesday
and Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 6
p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 11
a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m.
to 7 p.m. The gallery is at 514 S.
Washington in Royal Oak; (313),
545-4820.
